First Fusiliers Battlegroup leading 7th Armoured Brigade into Iraq. 21st march 2003 Operation Telic. The motto of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers means Wherever the fates call. On 21st March 2003, just after midnight, Warriors of the Milan Anti-tank Platoon of the First Fusiliers, commanded by Captain Nader Anabtawi, drove through the gap made in the wire and halted at the foot of the berm marking the border between Kuwait and Iraq. Soldiers dismounted from the Warriors and climbed to the top of the berm, where each pair of men set up their Milan firing post. There were twelve Milan firing posts in all. A platoon of Y Company, armed with machine guns and SA80 rifles was interspersed among them. All the while, shells fired by the Royal Artillery were exploding in the air ahead of them. As the Fusiliers fired at the enemy across the rugged farmland in front, a Combat Engineer Tractor of 39 Armoured Engineer Squadron dug a gap in the berm. Then, an AVLB was driven through and launched its No.10 bridge across the anti-tank ditch. By now it was first light. A Phoenix unmanned aerial vehicle was flying at the same height as the air bursts. The enemy fire was suppressed, and Challenger 2 tanks of The Queen's Royal Lancers poured through the breach, then across the bridge and into Iraq.

Richard the Lionhearts tactical skills and military training played a substantial role in the capture of Acre in 1191 by the Crusaders. But Richard the Lionheart was ruthless and after the capture of the city he marched 2,700 Muslim soldiers onto the road of Nazareth and in front of the Muslim army positions, had them executed one by one. But Richard the Lionheart was up against a great leader in Saladin and the crusades did not always go his way. After he negotiated the Treaty of Jaffa with Saladin and secured the granting of special rights of travel around Palestine and in Jerusalem for Christian pilgrims, Richard the Lionheart started his journey back to England in 1192. He was shipwrecked, and captured by the German Emperor Henry VI, only being released after a 150,000 mark ransom was paid. This money was raised by taxes in England.

Helmand Province, Afghanistan, March 2010. The Counter Improvised Explosive Device Task Force was originally composed of Royal Logistical Corps EOD, Pioneer, and Royal Engineer teams. On three occasions since their last Grand Slam in 1995 the England team had come within a whisker of completing another dream. During this important build up towards the world cup England finally laid their ghost to rest. After six years under the guidance of Head Coach Clive Woodward England, having beaten the big three from the Southern Hemisphere in a back-to-back series of matches at Twickenham, reached number one in the Zurich world ranking. This Grand Slam, a wonderful achievement in itself, underlined Englands worldwide dominance.

They came across the English Channel at wave top height, their propeller slipstreams leaving wakes on the surface of the water. Nine Dornier Do17Z bombers of 9th Staffel, KG76, detailed to attack the RAF airfield at Kenley as part of Reichsmarshal Gorings prelude to Operation Sealion - the invasion of Britain. Hitler knew that RAF Fighter Command had to be destroyed in the airand on the ground if his plans were to succeed, but the German High Command failed to take into account the resilience of the young Hurricane and Spitfire pilots, and their determination to hold this last vital line of defence. The Dorniers were spotted as they approached the English coast, and Hurricanes were scrambled to intercept. The German bombers cleared the North Downs with feet to spare and spread out into attack formation as they lined up on the hangars at Kenley. As they came in over the airfield Hurricanes of 111 Squadron came diving upon them. Suddenly all hell broke loose. Bombs rained down on to the airfield and buildings went up in flames. One Dornier was brought down and tow more, badly damaged by ground fire, were finished off by the Hurricane pilots. Now the chase was on to catch the others before they could escape back to their base in Northern France. Only one of the nine Dorniers that set out will return to base on that 18th day of August, 1940.
