| Flight Lieutenant Joseph P R Chamberlin *Signature Value : £50 | Joining the RAFVR in June 1939 he was then called up at the Outbreak of war. He flew Blenheim's with No.235 Sqn during the Battle of Britain On the 14th February 1941 when returning from a dusk patrol over the North Sea. Having to divert to Langham airfield prepared to land The airfield's lights went out and the Blenheim hit a tree. The navigator, P/O ER Phillips, was killed and the air gunner Sgt. Burns slightly injured. Chamberlain himself was seriously injured and spent eight months in hospital. On returning he was placed on ground duties at RAF Langham. Sadly he passed away on the September 21st, 2011 |
