CHRIS COLLINGWOOD Art Prints of the English Civil War by military artists Chris Collingwood. The English civil war is one of the major periods of interest to Chris and this can be seen in the superb range of English Civil War art prints. The English Civil War of 1642 to 1651. The Friction between King Charles Ist and the Parliament. became civil war in 1642, sometimes referred to as "The Great Rebellion". The Monarchy was supported by Anglican episcopacy, while the Parliament has the backing of the Presbyterians. The Kings Forces known as the Royalist were strong in the west of England and in the North. But in 1644 after the Battle of Marston Moor a Victory for Oliver Cromwell and the parliamentarian army, (known as the New Model Army). the Royalists lost control of the North. King Charles the Ist had to surrender after the Royalist defeat at Naseby in 1645. The war started again when King Charles escaped and made an alliance with the Scots who invaded England. But the Scots and Other Royalist forces were defeated by Oliver Cromwell. King Charles the first was tried for treason and beheaded in 1649.

Oliver Cromwell by Chris Collingwood. Oliver Cromwell born1599 to his father Robert Cromwell, and his mother Elizabeth Steward Cromwell. This painting of Cromwell shows him at the age of 50. From his humble beginnings he became a military leader second to none during the civil war. He was the creator of the Ironsides and was Lord Protector from 1653 to 1658. Many think of him today as a visionary political leader. He died due to a recurring illness on 3rd September 1658. |
